Not only does the burden of neurological diseases demands action now, but it also asks for expertise and courage. To get successful results, one needs to put tireless efforts and dedication. In an interview with Pharma Tech Outlook, Danilo Pagano, Vice President of Lundbeck, discusses the company's objectives, motto, and development within the spectrum of the pharmaceutical and healthcare sectors.
In light of your experience, tell us about some recent trends and challenges that you have noticed in the healthcare sector?
After witnessing the surge of digital services and technologies, it is our firm belief that we will soon be relying heavily on technological innovation. Focusing on Research and Development (R&D) is the most critical pillar in Lundbeck's ambition to improve the treatment of patients. As a specialist in psychiatry and neurology, we want to raise awareness and challenge the international agenda for the broader acceptance of patients with better opportunities for treatment.
"The entire pharmaceutical sector is in urgent need of both innovative technological solutions and fundamental scientific work, enabling the production of the best possible remedies"
Minor challenges, such as management and production issues of new bundles of products and services may arise, which are sufficient to hinder the process of workflows. To tackle similar situations, we need to progress collectively toward a common goal in mind, in alignment with organizational objectives and appropriate technologies.
How does the implementation of technology in the pharmaceutical industry enhance customer experiences?
The new marketing and communication techniques have allowed Lundbeck to engage with their customers at an interpersonal level, providing a rich customer experience. With the help of AI and automation, healthcare providers can enable alerts, monitoring, and the prioritization of mental well-being. Predictive analysis, diagnosis, and recommendations can be automated, ensuring that the system continuously learns to detect and eliminate vulnerabilities and breaches in security. This would help in fast-tracking the assessment of the safety and effectiveness of the drugs and devices.
Could you elaborate on some significant changes that you are observing in terms of automation in the pharmaceutical industries?
Automation has significantly aided in reducing the inflated healthcare expenses, which were growing due to the demand for medical devices and innovation corresponding to drug discovery. The entire pharmaceutical sector is facing an immediate need for both innovative technological solutions and fundamental scientific work, enabling the production of the best possible remedies.
What would be the best advice that you could impart to an aspiring professional in your field?
Having a precise understanding of the path we are headed to, one should always have a clear concept and vision, because everyone is putting in their best effort to reach the same goal. Currently, professionals in different departments ranging from information technology (IT) to research and development (R&D) passing through commercial and supply chain are working in conjunction to ensure that the scientific and technological advancements are incorporated within the Pharmaceutical Industry. The Chief Executive Officer (CEO), along with the Chief Information Officer (CIO) and Chief Digital Officer should function cohesively as a unit in an era dominated by digital technology, which has the potential to become a significant catalyst in the future.
